Sac State exhibit highlights women at war
Artwork, photography and memorabilia illustrate “Women and War: Reflections and Portraits,” an exhibit running Dec. 5 to 16, on the second floor of the University Union Gallery at California State University, Sacramento.

Sponsored by Sacramento State’s Veterans Success Center and Women’s Resource Center, the exhibit highlights the experiences of women in war, ranging from those who served with the military to those who live in occupied territories, said exhibit coordinator Emily Caruso.

The display will feature 10 to 15 pieces and include works by Sacramento State instructor Brenda Louie, local photographers Cassandra Williams and Nancy Wylie, and Lebanese artist Nour Ballouk.

It will also include large photos of local women who are veterans and service members, displayed with accompanying text of a story, reflection or memory of their experiences.

Representatives from the two centers had been looking for a project they could work on together and decided the best way to prompt discussion about women in war was to host an art exhibit on campus.

“The exhibition highlights the strengths of women during wartime as shown from a variety of experiences,” Caruso said.
